Why Volunteer?

"I feel I have made a difference" - WSAC Volunteer

Volunteering with the Women's Sexual Assault Centre (WSAC) offers you a unique and rewarding experience to work with other compassionate individuals who are committed to providing support to survivors of sexualized violence; and work towards the prevention of sexualized violence against women. Volunteering at the WSAC also provides you the opportunity to:

  • develop new skills
  • support and empower survivors of sexualized violence
  • Work in a team environment
  • gain career-related, interactive experience
  • contribute to and connect with the community

From volunteering on our Sexual Assault Response Team to helping out at the Triathlon of Compassion, all offer the chance to impact the lives of others and make a difference in our community.

Here are some thoughts from past volunteers on their experience with the Women's Sexual Assault Centre.

"I thought the training and support was excellent. I found the work extremely worthwhile. I have learned a huge amount and have found this volunteering to be the most rewarding I have ever done."

"I believe in the presence of someone there just for her, not to take a swab or take her clothes or take her words, but just to be there for her alone... Despite the fact that I am totally drained, I am ever inspired to continue working for and with women. There is a low flurry of energy in my chest that affirms the power or importance or something of driving out at 4:30 on a dark rainy morning to meet a woman who could be me"

"This has been a fantastic and very rewarding experience for me. I speak very highly of WSAC programming, staff, philosophy, and all your contributions to the community. Thank you so much, I will always remember this experience and you fondly."

"It surpassed my expectations. All of the trainers are amazing"

"I have a few thoughts on volunteering at the WSAC. It is an amazing experience and one that I am thankful for. I am so proud to be a SART member and although it can be emotional and intense at times, it is also amazingly rewarding and fulfilling. Being a SART member has personally challenged me and because of this I feel stronger and more empowered as a woman. I am truly grateful to be a part of this amazing organization!"
